JUSTIFICATION FOR A NATIONAL POLITICAL SUMMIT PROMOTION OF INTERNAL DEMOCRACY

It has become apparent that democracy can only survive when we succeed in enthroning the principle of internal democracy among political parties. The outcome of the 2015 General Election has shown that elections cannot continue to be won through the old order of imposing candidates on the people. if we persist on imposition of candidates and rigging them in, then the people must one day violently oppose it leading to the breakdown of law and order. Focus to sustain this democracy there is need for political parties to imbibe absolutely the principle of internal democracy. The summit will therefore be the avenue to elucidate on the need to uphold the principle of internal democracy for all our political parties.

STRENGTHENING OUR DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS

Strong democratic institutions are sinq qua non to sustainable democracy. Strong democratic institutions will help standardize our democratic system. The summit will therefore reflect on the urgent need and advantages for strengthening our democratic Institutions.

DEVELOPING POSITIVE POLITICAL CULTURE

For our democracy to stabilize, political actors must imbibe positive political culture. The culture of the loser congratulating the winner as propagated by the President Commander-in-Chief and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is a good political culture that Nigerians must imbibe and develop for the stability of our democracy. Other positive conducts such as the culture of honesty in political context, nonviolent and peaceful conducts during campaigns and elections, nonuse of profane language during campaigns and restricting the major actos to issue-based campaign devoid of name-calling are matters this Summit will attend to propagate.
